5 Reasons to Have Sex in the Morning

Keep your heart healthy, heighten your pleasure, reduce stress, and so much more by getting it on the morning! Read on to discover how morning sex can keep you healthy, happy and oh-so satisfied!

Stress Relief and Fewer Infections

A 2014 study by the SAGE Journal of Psychological Science found that recurring hugs and kisses were linked to less stress and less of a chance of getting infections! Make mornings all about cuddling, hugging and kissing with your partner! By doing so, you’ll give yourself an instant dose of stress relief, while releasing the “bonding” hormone, oxytocin.

Kait Scalisi, MPH, a New York City-based sex educator explains, “While you get a release of oxytocin anytime you experience pleasure, doing it in the a.m. helps you maximize the benefits… A hit of oxytocin early in the day boosts your mood and helps you feel more loving towards your beau all day long,”

Heightened Pleasure

According to Scalisi, men have a higher level of testosterone in the morning! She states, “That means they’ll be hornier and can last longer. It may even make them more adventurous.” Morning sex can also be a lot of fun because you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed after a good night’s sleep. Researchers also believe that sexual arousal during REM sleep is how the body generates healthy blood flow for healthier genital tissue.

Improved Heart Health

Sex and orgasms are important for a healthy heart! A 2016 study found in Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that more sex was linked to a decreased chance of cardiovascular issues and less chances of heart related issues later in life.

Dr. Adeeti Gupta, a board-certified gynecologist and sexual health expert who practices holistic gynecology in New York City explains, “Orgasm is one of the healthiest phenomenons that our bodies can experience…There is increased blood flow, increased heart rate and increased cardiac output, not just through the sexual organs, but through the entire body…The positive effects on the blood vessels and the nervous system lead to better mood, energy and performance throughout the day”.

Increased Sexual Desire

“Most couples nowadays are working hard all day long and [have] busy schedules, after-dinner cleaning up, putting kids to bed, etc. By the time they hit the bed the act of sex also feels like a chore,” says Gupta. She continues, “A full night’s sleep resets the body and mind and can be very beneficial in low-desire issues due to fatigue.” According to Gupta, both men and women suffer from low sexual desire for psychological reasons.

One of the best ways to have morning sex is to schedule it in! Just knowing that you have sex to look forward to in the morning can heighten anticipation, desire and excitement! Scheduling sex is also a great way to make it a priority, rather than something that may or may not happen.

Improved Performance

If you’re used to having sex after dinner, you may also be used to enduring distractions like alcohol, gassy foods, heartburn and exhaustion when you’re trying to get it on. Gupta says, “Alcohol is a well-known inhibitor of sexual performance.” A heavy dinner can also get in the way of a top performance during sex. When you have a large meal, all the blood flow is going to your gastrointestinal tract – not your genitals. Having sex in the morning avoids these problems, because your body isn’t working hard to digest a meal.
