Want a better nights sleep? Make sure to never, ever do these 4 things before bedtime! ‘
Eat Spicy Foods
Taco Tuesday may be your favorite night of the week — but try not to eat spicy foods too close to bedtime! Laying down too quickly after eating spicy foods can induce acid reflux and indigestion.
Scroll Through Instagram
Numerous studies have shown that blue and white light from the screens of our electronic devices, halts the production of melatonin. Melatonin is important because it prepares our bodies for sleep. Save the endless scrolling and likes of kittens and Kardashians for the morning!
Have a Cocktail
Reaching for a relaxing night cap at the end of a long day may be your preferred way to unwind, but studies show that having a drink before bed can decrease your chances of a good night’s sleep. Alcohol also lessens the amount of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep you get. It takes about 90 minutes after we fall asleep to get into REM sleep. The more REM sleep we get, the more refreshed and energized we’ll be in the morning! The less we get, the more lethargic we’ll be when we wake up.
Finish Up Work
Typically, your office isn’t a stress-free zone, so bringing work home and spending a few hours before bed finishing up a project isn’t the best way to unwind. If you absolutely have to wrap up a few work-related things, leave it out of the bedroom. Working from your bed will lead to your brain associating your bed with work, and you’ll have a much harder time falling asleep.
