At first glance, cheese tea may sound like an unlikely pairing, however, this tea (originally a hit in China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia) is winning over tea enthusiasts in New York and Los Angeles. Happy Lemon in Flushing, Queens serves up cheese tea in enticing flavors such as Oreo Milk Tea and chocolate, and Little Fluffy Head in Los Angeles offers small batches of tasty teas with fun names like Dirty Mess Milk Tea and Camouflage Matcha.

Cheese tea isn’t quite as bizarre as it sounds. The cheese used for this delightful tea is sweet or salty (depending on the tea) and frothy – similar to whipped cream cheese. The teas are often topped with pink himalayan salt, milk and whipped cream. When sipped, the tea takes on the flavor and texture of a light, yet decadent milkshake.

Based on the ingredients, it’s hard to say if these teas are a healthy choice, however, there’s no denying the many benefits of tea. While these drinks may be loaded with calories, it’s worth noting that an afternoon tea break can reduce stress and give you a boost of energy. We can’t deny how creative and amusing these tea blends are. Do you think you’ll give cheese tea a try?
