Cutoffs get a bad rap. They’re deemed as a major fashion no-no that can go horribly wrong. Many believe that they are best left to backyard barbecues and cheesy 80’s videos. Others see them as the core of a complete summer wardrobe.
It’s hard not to have a soft spot for the cutoff. They symbolize everything we love about summer; they’re fun, carefree, and a little rebellious. You can easily DIY them and customize them to your liking, or you can shop for a trendy pair that has a more refined, modern look. Acid washed, DIY, frayed, bleached, tie-dyed, high waist, high cut, cheeky- there are so many ways to wear this look.
With the hotter days approaching, we’re taking a look at how to style the iconic denim cutoff.
Add a trench, duster or a long kimono with a v-neck tank. A great option if you’re self-conscious about your thighs or the leggy rise of your cutoffs. A long cardigan or lightweight floor length kimono keeps you feeling cool and looking sexy. A v-neck tank or bodysuit will give you a long visual line from your neck to your ankles.

Button up: Take advantage of a cool, breezy summer evening and throw on a button up blouse with a fun pattern or texture. Gingham, stripes, florals and dots add an element of sophistication to a traditionally buttoned down, casual look.

Go for elegance: Grab a pair of pointy toed and/or ankle strap heels. You can find short shorts with curved hems, ruffled and cuffed hems, and hems with intricate, embellished and embroidered details to add intrigue and unexpected personality.

Add a statement hat: Balance out your look and make a statement with a hat. With so much skin showing, your look can easily go awry. Keep your sartorial proportions in check. A wide-brimmed hat elevates cutoffs to a new level, while presenting your leggy look as an ultra flirtatious focal point.
