Beware of Instagram Health and Diet Trends

Heath and fitness has become so mainstream that it’s now a lifestyle trend on social media – especially Instagram.

While many knowledgable professionals use the platform to inform and gain clients, there are also plenty of amateurs who are presenting themselves as “gurus” and spreading misinformation.

One recent example is the celery juice craze. It went viral, becoming an obsession for health nuts on social media. But when it comes down to it, the science isn’t there to support the benefits Instagram influencers were claiming.

Celery is a great snack when eaten raw – it’s mostly water and filled with fiber so it can keep you full without packing on calories. However, it’s relatively low in nutrients overall and certainly isn’t an adequate meal replacement.

It’s important to cross reference all the health and fitness information you come across on social media with multiple, reliable sources to make sure you’re not jumping on a bandwagon that may be, at best, useless, or at worst – harmful.

Do your own research and double check your favorite Instagram gurus credentials before becoming a die hard follower.
