Even though they can not bench press or squat the same amount of weight as their male counterparts, they last longer in the gym. Other studies have shown that women are more flexible than men. They also recover faster from exercise compared to the opposite gender. When men gain muscle and strength, they tend to develop more fast twitch muscle fibers than slow twitch fibers. Women, on the other hand, develop both types of muscle fibers equally.
Another notable difference between men and women is where they get their energy from. The male body typically uses a higher level of carbs for fuel, while women’s bodies utilize fat for energy. Additionally, ladies are more quad-dominant than men, which allows them to build lower body strength at a faster rate. The downside is that they’re also more prone to knee injuries.
Considering these findings, men and women should train differently. They also have to use a different approach when it comes to injury prevention and treatment. Even though most women won’t ever be able to outperform men in sports because of physiological differences, they do have clear advantages, such as increased flexibility, greater lower body strength, and higher pain threshold.
