Are you tired of making New Year’s resolutions only to abandon them a month or two in? If so, you’re not alone. Most resolutions feel great to set, but ultimately they’re too big or too complicated to sustain all year long. That’s why GymRa has come up with these straightforward resolutions. They’re simple to sustain for 12 months and effective enough to be worth it:
Tidying Up
Did you know that a messy room makes you feel more anxious? When we’re in a clean and tidy environment, our minds are less likely to run through stressful thoughts and, therefore, we have an easier time staying calm and content. That’s why keeping your house clean and tidy is a shockingly effective resolution for keeping your mental health in check. This is especially important if you have fallen behind on tidying and started to build up some anxious associations within your space.
Focus on tidying up for twenty minutes a day, every day. You don’t have to do a huge major cleaning session or completely rehaul your home – but then again, with consistent tidying, you won’t have to do that often, anyway. It is best to start with a big cleaning session just for the sake of starting at a clean slate. Dedicate a weekend to resetting your home — or hire someone to do it for you — and then commit to your twenty-minute goal and see how much easier keeping your home clean can be.
Exercising Regularly
You can get your exercise goals on track by setting a goal to exercise in some way, shape, or form every day.
Remember, you don’t have to do a huge, intensive workout every single day in order to exercise. You can take it easy with a short walk around the block or a simple yoga routine. However, if you do want to challenge yourself, we have a ton of excellent programs you can use to test your limits and unlock your full potential. Focus on the forms of exercise that bring you joy and help you feel proud of what your body can do. When you feel good about what you’re doing, you’re far more likely to stick with it.
Trying New Foods
Looking for a judgment-free way to mix up your diet and add variety? Commit to trying at least one new food every week. It can be an ingredient, restaurant order, new recipe — as long as you’re building up variety and trying new foods, then you’re on track!
There are a ton of benefits to doing this. Many of us feel like we can’t eat healthfully because we’re sort of rooted in our usual patterns of eating. Rather than trying to completely unmake this pattern, trying new foods each week allows you to gradually shift your ideas about what kinds of foods you enjoy, making it far easier to incorporate healthier options into your usual meal plans.
Plus, trying new things can help you get more joy out of the things you’re eating, and life in general. Studies have shown that the reason time tends to feel faster as we age is because we have fewer new experiences. Eating new foods is a great way to mix it up, change your perspective, and inject some new experiences into your life. Will you like everything you try? Probably not, but that’s not the point — the point is putting yourself out there and taking the risk.
The great thing about these resolutions is that they’re not too time-intensive, they’re easy to fit into any routine, and they provide pretty significant results. We hope they inspire you to make a change that will help you build a better tomorrow!
