Technology seems to be a lifesaver when it comes to making our daily lives a little more manageable, however there’s still one area where it seems to fail. New research shows that desire and attraction are not calculable by data. Frequent online daters may already be well aware of the results of this study due to sheer trial and error.
A new study of speed daters were asked 100 questions about themselves. The questions were similar to questions you’d find on Match.com or Bumble. The daters then went on 4-minute dates with each other.
The researchers found that those who were a perfect match on paper were not an ideal match in real life. Out of 100 questions, researchers were not able to find a significant indicator of a favorable match, proving that chemistry and attraction can only be determined in person. Algorithms simply can’t predict the potential to fall in love.
While this news may seem discouraging, there’s no denying how convenient apps are when it comes to meeting new people that you may not have had the chance to meet otherwise. Dating websites and apps have made it possible to give you a wider selection of potential partners, which increases your chance of success of meeting someone you’ll spark with. Swiping right may not be a surefire way to find love, but it sure is fun seeing all the potential sparks out there.
