Top 5 Foods That Make You Feel Bloated

While most people fear weight gain, there are worst things that can happen. Indigestion, bloating, nausea, and upset stomach can ruin your day. Unfortunately, even the healthiest foods may cause digestive distress. Eating too much salt and drinking alcohol can only make things worse. Make sure you avoid these bloat-inducing foods:

Cruciferous Veggies
Broccoli, kale, and cabbage are healthy and rich in antioxidants. The downside is that they also contain a lot of fiber and raffinose, which may cause bloating. The fiber in these veggies is hard to digest and produces gas in your belly. Eat them cooked to avoid these problems.

Onions
Onions and garlic cause the formation of gas in your digestive tract, especially when eaten raw. People with IBS or gastritis should avoid these veggies as much as possible. To reduce bloating, replace onions with herbs and spices, or eat them well-cooked. The heat will break down some of the fiber and make it easier to digest.

Lentils
Beans, edamame, and lentils contain phytic acid and oligosaccharides, which may cause severe bloating. Your body works hard to process these sugars.

Fizzy Drinks
Fizzy drinks, including diet coke, have bubbles and artificial sweeteners, leaving you bloated. Studies indicate that sweeteners affect gut flora, which can lead to a bigger belly. Sugar is no better. To prevent bloating, stick to water, unsweetened lemonade, tea, or fresh fruit and vegetable juices.

Dairy Products
Milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy contain lactose, which leads to bloating. This problem is common among people with milk allergy or lactose intolerance. If your body cannot tolerate lactose, steer clear of dairy or choose lactose-free brands. Almond and soy milk don’t contain lactose, but may cause bloating too.
