5 Foods That Can Help You Lose Weight During The Holidays

There’s no avoiding food during the holidays, but there are ways to make the most of the fat fighting foods during the holidays! Check out these five foods that can actually help you keep the pounds off during the holidays!

Red Peppers

Red peppers are great for slimming due to the high content of vitamin c and capsinoids! Research has shown that capsaicin can turn on fat burning modules in the body, when consumed. Red peppers are also loaded with fiber which helps you stay fuller for longer periods of time.

Incorporate red peppers into your diet, by adding them to salads or snacking on them raw! If you’re at a holiday party and there’s a veggie platter with red peppers – skip the dip!

Quinoa

Loaded with cholesterol lowering amino acids, phytosterols and vitamin E, quinoa is a great weight loss staple! A recent study showed that animals who were fed a supplemented diet of quinoa seed extract had a lower body weight than animals who did not have quinoa in their diets.

For breakfast, make a delicious quinoa porridge! For a hearty lunch or dinner, add quinoa to veggies, chicken, fish or tofu for a healthy dish packed with fat fighting protein.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is popular during the holidays — make the most of it while losing weight by adding it to teas, coffees and snacks! Research shows that adding cinnamon to cereal greatly affected how the body balanced glucose in obese and normal weight individuals after eating a meal.

Sprinkle cinnamon over savory dishes to add flavor, or have a dash in a cup of tea or latte!

Flaxseed Meal

Flaxseed meal is an excellent way to add polyunsaturated fatty Acids and monounsaturated fatty acids to your diet! These healthy fats are great for whittling away your waistline because of the high content of fiber and good fats that keep your gut balanced. Nutritionist Ashley Koff, RD, explains, “Because soluble fiber forms a gel when it contacts water, digestion takes more time, and carbohydrate-containing foods are absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream.” This means that your body will use carbs for energy instead of storing it as fat!

During the holidays, you can add flaxseed meal to your diet by adding it into breakfast smoothies or add it to desserts (in place of eggs) for flavor and a rich texture.

Lemons

Did you know that all citrus fruits help to release fats? Limes, oranges, and grapefruits are all wonderful citrus fruits to add to your diet when you’re looking to shed pounds – but lemons contain an acid that is especially beneficial for digestion!

Spritz some lemon into a cup of hot water during the holiday season to stimulate digestion, keep hydrated, and boost weight loss. You can also spritz lemon or lime juice into salads to add flavor to a bland dish!
