A growing body of research indicates that cancer and diet are strongly connected. Poor eating habits increase the risk of death from all causes. About 40 percent of people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. This condition is the leading cause of death worldwide. Even those who eat healthy are at risk. Many everyday foods, such as popcorn, non-organic fruits, and canned fish, contain toxic compounds that promote cancer cell growth. Eliminate these products from your diet to live a longer, healthier life:
Canned Tomatoes
Canned foods, including tomatoes, fish, and vegetables, may increase cancer risk. Bisphenol-A (BPA), a toxic compound found in the lining of cans, has been linked to DNA damage, brain damage, and cancer. If you care about your health, stick to fresh produce.
Hydrogenated Oils
Margarine, potato chips, store-brought cookies, and other everyday foods containing hydrogenated oils increase cancer risk. These fats affect cardiovascular health, raise HDL cholesterol levels, and weaken immune function. Even the FDA agrees that hydrogenated oils are not safe for human consumption.
Non-Organic Fruits
Non-organic apples, peaches, berries, and other fruits contain pesticides that are harmful to your health. Regular consumption may cause cancer, reproductive disorders, and pregnancy complications. If you’re not sure what fruits to eat, check out the Dirty Dozen and choose organic produce as much as possible.
Deli Meats
Bacon, lunch meats, sausages, burgers, and other deli meats have been shown to increase the risk of cancer. These foods are highly processed and contain preservatives that may lead to colon cancer, DNA mutations, and chronic diseases. Additionally, they are high in sodium and trans fats, which affects cardiovascular function.
Sugary Drinks
Soda, commercial fruit juices, and energy drinks are made with chemicals that enhance their taste and flavor. These beverages pack a lot of sugar, preservatives, and artificial dyes, causing pH imbalances in the body. Basically, they feed cancer cells by creating an acidic environment.
This list wouldn’t be complete without refined sugar, white flour, fries, chips, red meat, and GMOs. Ditch them from your diet and eat whole, natural foods. Avoid processed products and read food labels carefully before making a purchase.
